Dr. Stephan Kühnel is a postdoctoral researcher and head of a research group focusing on design science research (DSRG) at the Institute for Information Systems and Operations Research at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. He works as senior lecturer and researcher, senior project manager, and evaluation officer at the faculty of Law, Economics, and Business. He received his PhD in Business Informatics with a focus on the economic aspects of compliance in business processes. The results of his doctoral thesis formed the basis for a joint project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) called ProBITS, in which he headed the subproject MEBITS.
Besides leading several third-party funded projects, his practical experience includes working as a data analyst and data scientist, as well as consulting start-ups, small businesses, and associations on the implementation of regulatory requirements. His research interests include current challenges in information security and compliance, data science project models, as well as design science research in a wide range of application areas (e.g., augmented reality, cloud computing, e-health).
His research has been published in journals, such as ACM Computing Surveys, Business & Information Systems Engineering, Computers & Security, Journal of Decision Systems, and Pacific Asia Journal of the Association for Information Systems, as well as leading peer-reviewed conference proceedings, such as the European Conference on Information Systems, International Conference on Conceptual Modeling, and International Conference on Business Process Management.
